HABEAS CORPUS ISSUE
THE Supreme Court has directed concerned government officials to show cause why a writ of habeas corpus should not be issued for the release of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
In a statement, the tribunal said the court en banc directed respondents in the consolidated petitions “to show cause within a non-extendible period of 24 hours from receipt of notice why the peremptory writ of habeas corpus should not issue.”
The SC likewise ordered the consolidation of the petitions for habeas corpus separately filed by Duterte’s children: Davao City Rep. Paolo, Davao City Mayor Sebastian, and Veronica.
Named in the petitions were Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Interior Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla Jr., and Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Rommel Franciso Marbil. Philippine News Agency
