A YEAR ago, church bells and other antiquated methods were still used in Barangay Tabigue, Abuyog, Leyte to alert residents on what was happening in the community. Around 1,300 of those living in the barangay had to be content with life almost devoid of technology, when there was no cell site in their area.

“Dati, in case may emergency, ginagamit naming pang-signal ang kampana. Pag mabilis ang tunog, ibig sabihin ay may aksidente o di kaya ay may nangyari sa aming barangay,” shared Darrio Lleve, Barangay Captain of Brgy. Tabigue, Abuyog, Leyte.

Through Globe’s massive network modernization and expansion program, Brgy. Tabigue finally had a cell site that served the population and passing motorists. Residents can already communicate with each other using their mobile devices.

The Globe cell tower is a much-needed infrastructure, especially during the pandemic when children cannot leave their houses to go to school and parents had to try new means of fending for the family. It is equipped with 4G LTE, a wireless technology that offers users improved bandwidth, latency, and capacity.

“Nagustuhan nila yung ginhawa lalo na ngayong COVID. Nagagamit sa pag-aaral ng mga estudyante. Ang mga tao rito, nag o-online selling na rin dahil may malakas nang cell site dito,” he added.

“Mahirap bumalik sa unang panahon dahil hindi maganda at mahihirapan lang kami.”

Globe is working relentlessly to bring #1stWorldNetwork to all parts of the Philippines, including far-flung areas where connectivity is weak or non-existent, as in the case of Brgy. Tabigue.

“Technology is really a great equalizer. It can dramatically improve the quality of a person’s life. As a digital solutions company, Globe aims for every Filipino to have access to technology, especially the Internet. We want to give them a chance to better themselves and open their world to new opportunities,” said Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Program Delivery, Network Technical Group.

With its mission to deliver #1stWorldNetwork connectivity to Filipinos, Globe ramped up its new cell site builds for the year. The company uses 4G LTE and 5G wireless technologies for faster download and upload, higher bandwidth, and low latency, among other benefits. Aside from these, Globe completed 82 in-building solutions or IBS to provide quality indoor coverage to customers for better mobile signals.

Globe’s 5G outdoor coverage in the National Capital Region has now reached 95% and is already present in over 1,900 locations in the country as of end-September. Globe is helping migrate its customers to 5G-enabled devices and offering free SIM 4G LTE/5G so that customers can experience the power of the new technology.

Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically UN SDG No. 9, which aims to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation. It is committed to upholding the United Nations Global Compact principles and contributing to 10 UN SDGs.
