TOURISM Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco has ordered the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) to temporarily stop accepting guests following a landslide that eroded and carved out the side service access road of the Banaue Hotel and Youth Hostel (BHYH).

This after the Department of Tourism (DOT) received a report confirming an initial assessment from TIEZA Chief Operating Officer Mark T. Lapid that the BHYH, the 81-room facility owned and operated by the infrastructure arm of the DOT, was affected by the landslide.

Per TIEZA, another landslide occurred fronting the main entrance of the hotel from the highway and into the parking lot, the DOT said.

No guests were harmed and cleaning is underway, TIEZA reported to Frasco.

Due to the damage, however, Frasco instructed Lapid to temporarily prohibit the use of the facility to ensure the safety of guests and personnel.

Meanwhile, Frasco has been assured that TIEZA engineers from the Architecture and Engineering Service Sector, which handles the infrastructure projects of the Authority, have been deployed to Banaue.

Moreover, coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways-Cordillera Administrative Region Regional Office has also started.
