THE hazing, cybercrime, rape and illegal drug cases in this nation is something that must be addressed by everybody.

In the view of various quarters, the two-chamber Congress – the 24-member Senate and the House of Representatives – “plays a crucial role in this gigantic undertaking.”

This our legislators will do by establishing the country’s first National Forensic Service (NFS) under the auspices of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Placing the proposed NFS under the DOST is aimed at ensuring its professional and operational independence and scientific objectivity.

Rep. Alexie Tutor of the 3rd District of Bohol, chair of the House committee on civil service and professional regulation, said, “I am in favor of having a professional law for forensics and establishing the proposed NFS.”

We agree with the lawmaker from Bohol that there is that urgent need to increase the number of forensic pathologists while Congress is considering the creation of the NFS.

“Tama lang ito para mapabilis ang imbestigasyon ng mga kasong nangangailangan ng serbisyo ng mga forensic pathologists,” according to a relative of a cybercrime victim.

Our lawmakers deserve the support of the Filipino people as they exert their best efforts to speed up the establishment of the proposed National Forensic Service.
