Employers urged to be considerate to workers
FORMER Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos appealed to employers to be as humane as possible in times of natural calamities following the onslaught of tropical storm “Kristine” and the looming threat of another weather disturbance, tropical storm “Leon.”
Abalos shared the sentiment of Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma that private employers should not reprimand or discipline employees who will fail to report for work because of the bad weather.
Abalos, who is eyeing a Senate seat, said the safety and welfare of employees and workers should still be prioritized by the companies.
Classes and government work in Luzon were suspended on October 23 due to the heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Kristine.
Usually, it is upon the discretion of employers of private companies if work will also be suspended in their firms.
