SAN JOSE CITY – Police bomb experts disposed of a fragmentation hand grenade after it was accidentally discovered by a man who was cleaning up a vacant lot inside a subdivision here on Thursday morning.
City police head Lt. Col. Marlon M. Cudal said he immediately called the Nueva Ecija provincial explosives and canine unit led by Captain Ferdinand S. Galang after Rommel Bautista, 46, of Ilang-Ilang Street, Bgy. Abar 1st reported that he accidentally found a hand grenade while cleaning a vacant lot inside the Saint Cecilia Village here at 9:20 a.m.
Cudal’s men, who immediately secured and cordoned off the area, described the said explosive as an MK2 fragmentation grenade with its safety pin already detached.
“Kinakalawang ng ‘yung granada na nakalagay daw sa loob ng lata,” Cudal told the Journal Group.
He said NEPECU operatives retrieved the grenade and disposed of it in a river in Bgy. Sibut.
