TOUGH-talking President Duterte completes on Tuesday, November 30, the first 65 months of his six-year administration, which started at 12 noon on June 30, 2016.

This leaves the outgoing Chief Executive just seven months to fulfill his 2016 election campaign promises, including the eradication of corruption in the bureaucracy.

Thus, grafters in government offices and agencies, like the police and the military, would do well to stop their corrupt ways as Duterte winds down his stint as President.

When President Duterte assumed the top political post of the land in 2016, the Filipino people, especially the poor and the lowly across the Philippines, applauded him.

Of course, the people also saluted the long-time mayor of Davao City in Mindanao since he also vowed to slay the dreaded “drug monster” and address criminality.

Likewise, the people believed that the hard-hitting lawyer was in a position to meet the mushrooming employment, medical and food needs of the burgeoning population.

But the Duterte administration soon realized that addressing the so many problems confronting the Filipino people and the country “is better said than done.”

Then came the crippling coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic that devastated the economy, displacing millions of workers and killing of people across the globe.

Certainly, the government, through concerned offices and agencies, may find it difficult to hasten the country’s economic recovery because the pandemic is still raging.

But in the view of some quarters, the Chief Executive is still capable of sending to jail even the world-class crooks and vultures before he leaves Malacanang next year.
