THE Department of Health – CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) again urged residents to get their COVID-19 shots in order to have additional protection against the various variants of the virus, especially the Delta which is the variant of concern because of its ability to spread faster and twice contagious than the original virus.

Dr. Eduardo C. Janairo, DOH regional director, said the Delta variant is now the dominant strain and it is best for everyone to get their COVID shots now as it has been proven that vaccines are highly effective in preventing severe illness and even death and it is the best defense against the virus.

“Let us do our part and put an end to this pandemic. For those who haven’t got their vaccine, get your jab now and encourage your friends and family to do the same. Unvaccinated people are more at risk than those who receive their shots,” he said.

As of Oct. 7, 2021, there are already a total of 7,202,685 individuals vaccinated in 598 active vaccination sites in various provinces.

Janairo noted that residents can choose from 9,606,926 doses of different vaccines allocated to the region.

“We have a total allocation of 9,606,926 vaccines.

On Oct. 10, the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit reported 573 new cases of COVID-19 infection/ There are now a total of 361,273 cases in CALABARZON with 34,819 active cases. While 316,018 have already recovered, 10,436 individuals have died from the virus.
