DILG cites Iloilo bgy., 11 other lupons

THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has recognized Barangay Calumpang Molo in Iloilo City for being declared Hall of Famer and eleven other lupons for being declared Outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa for their excellent performance in settling neighborhood disputes in accordance with the Katarungang Pambarangay (KP) law.

DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Año said Barangay Calumpang Molo bagged the outstanding lupon award during the 2021 Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentive Awards (LTIA) in the highly urbanized cities category for three consecutive years or from 2018, 2019, and 2021 with the awarding year of 2020 being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “To win the award once is a massive achievement in itself and to win it thrice is truly a monumental accomplishment for Calumpang Molo,” he said.

Also hailed as national winners in their respective categories are Brgy. Lawa-an of Roxas City, Capiz for the Independent Component/Component Cities category; Brgy. Alangan in Limay, Bataan won in the 1st to 3rd Class Municipalities category; and Aberia, Sebaste, Antique for the 4th to 6th Class Municipality category.

“Congratulations to all our awardees! We are glad in the DILG for your victory for it verifies that KP in barangays is working and can be consistently implemented for the benefit of the people,” said Año.

The LTIA is an annual search that recognizes outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa that grants economic and other incentives to Lupons which demonstrate exemplary performance and commendable contributions in the promotion of KP objectives.

Declared as second and third placers were: Highly Urbanized City category – Brgy. Balibago, Angeles City, Pampanga (2nd place) and Budla-an, Cebu City (3rd placer); Independent Component/Component Cities category – Upper Katungal, Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat (2nd) and Taloto, Tagbilaran City, Bohol (3rd); 1st to 3rd Class Municipalities category – Poblacion, Tupi, South Cotabato (2nd) and Santa Catalina Sur, Candelaria, Quezon (3rd); 4th to 6th Class Municipality category – Quezon, Mainit, Surigao del Norte (2nd) and Ambassador, Tublay, Benguet (3rd).

Among the criteria used to gauge the barangays’ performance were: efficiency in operations of the Lupong Tagapamayapa; effectiveness in securing the settlement of interpersonal dispute objective of the KP objective; creativity and resourcefulness of the Lupon; area or facility of KP activities; and financial or non-financial support.

Each of the four national winners received a cash award of P300,000 and a trophy, while each of the four 2nd placers was awarded P150,000 and plaque, and all 3rd placers got P100,000 and plaque. The Hall of Famer was given an additional cash award of P300,000 and a trophy.

Punong Barangay Robert C. Niño of Calumpang Molo said the DILG has been an integral factor in their continued success in the implementation of the KP objectives expressing his gratitude to the Department for capacitating their barangay.

“Heartfelt gratitude sa ating DILG family, sa national and local maging dito sa Iloilo City sa kanilang encouragement at sa pagbibigay sa atin ng knowledge and skills para sa ating excellent na advocacy sa KP. Without DILG, hindi naman natin maa-achieve itong mga nakukuha nating mga recognition and awards. DILG has always been a partner to us,” Niño said.
