As the government starts the inoculation of economic frontliners, including teachers and non-teaching personnel, the Department of Education (DepEd) welcomes various global developments and insights on the vaccination of minors against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Nonetheless, DepEd will discuss these developments with the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF) and the Department of Health and defer to their decision regarding the matter.

As of now, DepEd said it is focused on supporting the National Deployment and Vaccination Plan and encouraging the teachers and its personnel to get vaccinated in preparation for the eventual implementation of limited face-to-face classes in low-risk areas.

Should the President and the IATF allow limited face-to-face classes based on the gains of the COVID-19 mitigation efforts, DepEd said it will still employ stringent conditions and safety protocols in its field offices and schools that will participate in the pilot implementation of face-to-face classes.

DepEd added it looks forward to a return to the “new normal” and urges everyone to continue cooperating with the government’s vaccination and other COVID-19 mitigation efforts for the protection of children, families and communities.
