DepEd expresses grief over 2 students’ death
THE Department of Education (DepEd) expressed grief over the death of two students from Signal Village National High School (SVNHS) who were found dead Friday in an office of the school.
Mary Nicole Picar, 15, a Grade 10 student, and Irish Sheen Manalo, 13, a Grade 8 student, reportedly hanged themselves.
They were found hanging by a rope tied around their necks to a steel grill in the Girl Scout office on the third floor of the school’s Magsaysay Building at past 10:00 p.m.
In a statement, the DepEd said they will fully cooperate with the PNP Taguig regarding the death of the two students.
“We express our deepest sympathies with the families. The loss of young lives is a devastating blow to any community,” the DepEd said.
DepEd appeals to the public to respect the privacy of the families during this tragic time.
Report from Southern Police District (SPD) showed a witness, a 16-year-old student, said she last saw the girls at around 7:45 p.m. and they told her they were about to head home,
The witness told police she learned through a Messenger group chat that the victims never got home. She said she searched for the victims and found their bodies.
The witness reported the incident to the guards on duty at the school. Police have yet to release information on the possible motive behind the victims’ deaths.
“We will let you know once we have an official report from SOCO (Scene of the Crime Operation),” DepEd spokesman Michael Poa said.
He added the school is coordinating with the victims’ families to extend assistance.
