Departing OFW wanted for VAWC case arrested at NAIA-T3
A 46-YEAR-old Filipino overseas worker bound for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia was barred from leaving the country on Saturday after he was found to be a wanted man, Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group director, Brigadier General Christopher N. Abrahano said yesterday.
According to the official, the departing passenger of Ethiopian Airlines was found to be the subject of a warrant of arrest for violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Act of 2004 and was immediately placed under police custody.
Members of the Aviation Security Unit-National Capital Region and the Pasay City Police Sub-Station 9 arrested the accused at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Terminal 3.
Brig. Gen. Abrahano said the suspect’s arrest was ordered by Judge Raymundo G. Vallega of the Caloocan City Regional Trial Court Branch 120 on July 28, 2016.
The court recommended a P24,000 bail for the temporary liberty of the suspect who was immediately apprised of his constitutional rights before he was handcuffed and taken to the Pasay City Police Sub-Station 9 for documentation and presentation to court.
“This operation underscores our dedication to a proactive security posture and our relentless pursuit of those who seek to evade justice. Let this serve as a clear message to all: Philippine Airports will continue to be a secured gateway, safeguarded by the combined strength and professionalism of our law enforcement agencies,” Brig. Gen. Abrahano said.
