Danao sends men to help flood-hit Banaue

PHILIPPINE National Police Officer-in-Charge (PNP-OIC) Lieutenant General Vicente D. Danao Jr. has ordered the Cordillera Police Regional Office to send all available resources and workforce to help in ongoing search and rescue and relief operations in several parts of Banaue, Ifugao which were devasted by flashflood and landslides last July 7.

The hardest hit by the landslides and flash floods triggered by continuous heavy rains were the villages of Uhaj, Gohang, Viewpoint, Amganad, and Tam-an. The flash floods also swept the nearby Barangays Poblacion, Bocos, and Poitan.

Following the tragedy, Cordillera Police Director Brigadier Gen. Ronald O. Lee said that Lt. Gen. Danao sent three truckloads of relief goods immediately distributed to affected residents.

A team from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) was also personally sent to the area to help distribute the relief goods.

They were assisted by officers from the Cordillera Regional Mobile Force Battalion and the Ifugao Police Provincial Office led by Col. James Mangili.

Over 1,000 relief packs containing rice, canned goods, and basic kitchen needs have been distributed by the police force so far to the affected Banaue residents.

Brig. Gen. Lee said that the flash floods and landslides damaged scores of houses, vehicles, rice fields, livestock, commercial establishments, roads, and other infrastructures in the area.
