DA: Road closures won’t affect food supply
THE Department of Agriculture (DA) yesterday assured that the closure and partial closure of major roads in Benguet and Mt. Province may not significantly affect the delivery of agri-fishery goods to Metro Manila.
The DA made the assurance as the local government units (LGUs) and concerned agencies immediately responded and conducted early clearing operations after a strong earthquake that affected Abra and areas in northern Luzon Wednesday, July 27, 2022.
The Department of Public Works and Highways-Cordillera Administrative Region (DPWH-CAR) closed at least 11 roads, mostly damaged due to soil collapse, slope collapse, rock slides, and cracks along the road lines brought by the magnitude 7 earthquake last Wednesday morning.
In its bulletin no. 1 on the 7-magnitude earthquake, the DA also disclosed that there were no reported damage and losses yet in the agriculture and fisheries commodities and infrastructures that could hamper the food supply system.
The DA said it coordinates with concerned national government agencies (NGAs), LGUs, and other Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) offices in the aftermath of the strong earthquake and pools available resources for interventions and assistance.
