Cop killed, 2 others hurt in clash with NPAs
A policeman was killed and two others were wounded in a clash with heavily-armed New People’s Army rebels in Calatrava, Negros Occidental in a failed attempt to arrest several rebels Wednesday evening, PNP Region 6 chief Brig. Gen Sydney Villaflor said.
The official said that the clash erupted as members of the Calatrava Municipal Police Station and the Army’s 303rdBrigade were about to serve a warrant of arrest issued against suspected NPA members ‘Darry Dayawan, Charity Amacan and several others’ in Barangay Minapasok around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday.
However, the targets of the warrants and their colleagues opened fire at the lawmen killing Corporal Jaime Nuñez and injuring Captain Jesus Alba, the deputy chief of the Calatrava Municipal Police Station and Cpl. Dennis Nasis.
Follow-up operations are still under way to arrest the members of the NPA band involved in the clash, said Brig. Gen. Villaflor.
