Convictions of 6 fixers should scare others – LTO
LAND Transportation Office (LTO) chief, Asst. Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said that the conviction of six “fixers” in the Cagayan should warn other individuals who are still in this illegal activity.
According to Mendoza, anti-fixing operations have already been intensified with the help of the police and other law enforcement agencies.
In fact, he said a handful of LTO employees were already arrested or under investigation for conniving with fixers.
Two separate courts in Cagayan province sentenced six fixers to three years imprisonment for the offense. They were also ordered to pay a fine of P5,000 for each offense.
The LTO chief said that Rufelyn Bayaca was convicted in all four cases filed against him by a court in Gataran, Cagayan, including falsification of public documents and violation of the Anti-Red Tape Law, or Republic Act 9845.
On the other hand, Mirasol Ramos, Elvira Donato, Elsie Ramos, Jesie Macapulay, and Jenno Bruar also got convictions for the three criminal charges leveled against them by a court in Tuao, Cagayan in connection with illegal transactions in the LTO.
They were all apprehended in the intensified anti-fixer operation ordered by Mendoza.
“I commend all our personnel in Cagayan for their anti-fixer efforts—from the arrest to the conviction of these people. Talagang tinutukan nila ang kasong ito at nagbunga naman ito ng conviction,” Mendoza said.
“Let this serve as a warning to the fixers that we will be relentless in running after you. Titiyakin namin na talagang magsisisi kayo sa maling gawain na pinasukan ninyo,” he added.
