THE House of Representatives’ high public satisfaction ratings according to a recent survey can be credited to the tireless work of its leaders led by Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez and the hard work of its members, House Committee on Appropriations Chairman and Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co said Sunday.

The latest Social Weather Station (SWS) survey indicated that the Senate, House of Representatives and the Supreme Court led the list of government agencies that obtained “very good” satisfaction ratings.

“This truth can’t be denied: Speaker Romualdez is one of the busiest leaders not only in Congress, but in the government as well. He is virtually everywhere – speaking engagements, high-level meetings, economic roadshows and the like,” Co said.

“Kaya naman buong pagsisikap naming pinapantayan ang kasipagan ng aming Speaker at ng iba pang lider tulad ng majority leader at committee chairpersons. Kahit break, may hearings. Kahit pahinga, gumagalaw ang gulong ng lawmaking machinery ng Kongreso,” Co added.

According to the latest SWS survey, the House of Representatives got a public satisfaction rating of +53, which falls under the category “very good.” The survey also said the lower house had a 63 percent “satisfied” respondents, while only 7% said they were dissatisfied.

The survey was conducted from December 10 to 14 last year, or during the period the House of Representatives passed on third and final reading a record number of bills and resolutions, including the P5.268 trillion national budget for this year.

“Being a former majority leader, Speaker Romualdez keenly understands how legislation works here in the House of Representatives. He knows how to expedite the passage of the measure without sacrificing the quality of the work. Kaya naman record number ang aming performance last year at nakikita ito ng mga tao,” Co said.

Before the year 2022 ended, the House has already passed 19 priority bills of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., including the SIM Registration Act and the postponement of the barangay and SK elections to October this year that both became law.

In addition, 37 other bills of national importance and 128 local bills were passed on final reading in just the first five months of the 19th Congress.

“At bago kami nag-summer break, 23 out of 31 bills identified sa Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) na priority ni Pangulong Marcos ang aming naipasa, bukod sa marami pang karagdagang panukala,” he said.

“And this is all because of a supportive and productive House leadership, who makes sure that our deadlines are met and the measures are deliberated exhaustively.”
