Climate change

THE worsening of climate change has thrust out front the need to establish more public parks across the Philippines, notably in heavily-populated areas.

And national and local government authorities would do well to plant more trees not only in public places but also in private places, like subdivisions.

This summer, people in many places continue to experience very hot weather conditions.

This almost unbearable heat has been forcing residents to go to cooler places like shopping centers.

Others spend their weekends in Baguio City, the Summar Capital of the Philippines, and Tagaytay City.

“Ito ngang darating na Semana Santa (Holy Week) ay magmumukhang ‘ghost city’ na naman ang Metropolitan Manila dahil magsisilayasan ang mga nakatira dito,” according to a local government official.

The annual exodus to the countryside during the Holy Week is nothing new to Metro Manilans.

“Sinasamantala nila ang mahabang weekend para mabisita ang mga kamag-anak at kaibigan,” a former public school teacher said.

And government authorities have no choice but to ensure the safety of those travelling to the provinces.

Happy trip to everybody.
