CIDG-Quezon smashes ‘gun-for-hire’ group, 15 loose guns seized
TIAONG, Quezon – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Quezon on Thursday dismantled a dreaded “gun-for-hire” group as they arrested three of the four persons behind its operation and seized 15 unlicensed firearms, three hand grenades, and a huge cache of ammunition at Barangay Anastacia, here.
CIDG-Quezon head Lt. Col. Ariel Huesca said the suspects were a 50-year-old woman and her two sons.
The husband of the female suspect and leader of the group was not around during the operation, said Huesca.
In his report to CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Eliseo Cruz and regional officer Col. Marlon Ramos, Huesca said they carried out the operation on the strength of a search warrant issued by Lucena City Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Dennis Orendain.
Huesca said the raid resulted in the seizure of three 12-gauge shotguns, a US carbine, a cal. 9mm Hydra pistol, three cal. 45 pistols, a cal. 22 Magnum color Smith and Wesson, cal. 38 revolver, a cal. 45 Thompson submachine gun, four cal. 38 revolvers, three hand grenades, 37 magazines for different calibers, and almost a thousand assorted ammunition.
The serving of the search warrant was done in the presence of Bgy. Captain Danilo Lagrimas and Kagawads Rufino Montes, Luisito Comia, and Nonilon Comia.
According to Huesca, the group’s leader, his wife, and two sons has been maintaining the group in gun-for-hire and gun-running activities in Quezon province and the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region.
“This group was recently involved in several killings that transpired in the towns of Tiaong, Sariaya, Candelaria in Quezon, and San Pablo City in Laguna,” Huesca said.
He said they have already identified the “triggers” used by the group now at large.
The arrested suspects and confiscated evidence were brought to the CIDG Quezon Office for proper disposition.
