CIDG collars man for girl’s rape
A MAN wanted for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in Davao de Oro in 2020 was arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) the other day, PNP-CIDG Director Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee.
The suspect was arrested on the strength of a warrant for qualified rape under Republic Act (RA) 8353 or the Anti-Rape Law of 1997 issued by Judge Celestial Aranda-Gonzales of the Mabini Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 57 in Davao de Oro last August 26, the PNP-CIDG director said.
No bail was recommended for the temporary liberty of the accused.
According to Lee, members of the CIDG Davao de Oro Field Unit tracked down the suspect, who has been tagged as the no. 2 most wanted person in Pantukan municipality following tips from concerned citizens.
Court records showed that the complainant, with the help of some relatives, filed a formal criminal complaint against the accused when she was still 15 years old. The victim said she was raped many times by the suspect.
“This horrible act is unacceptable, and the CIDG will see to it that justice is given to the victim,” Lee said.
