TWO more “most wanted persons” (MWPs) for rape were hauled to jail by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) in line with its stepped-up effort to account for “sex offenders” in the country, PNP-CIDG Director Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee said on Tuesday.

One of the suspects, a man wanted for four counts of qualified statutory rape and lascivious conduct with no bail recommended by the court, was tracked down in his hiding place in Sitio Malumpini in Barangay Old Bulatukan in Makilala, North Cotabato last Saturday, the official said in a report to PNP chief, Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr.

Lee said that members of the CIDG North Cotabato Provincial Field Unit (PFU), with the assistance of local police units, arrested the suspect at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The accused was tagged as the leader of the “Salib Criminal Group” involved in child molestation and sexual harassment activities in Makilala and its nearby municipalities, the PNP-CIDG director said.

The 2nd MWP was arrested by CIDG Region 8 officers in Sitio Caloocan in Bgy. San Jose in Palo, Leyte, on the same day.

Tagged as the 3rd most wanted man in Leyte, the suspect is the subject of a non-bailable warrant of rest for rape issued by Judge Lolita Mercado of the Tacloban City Regional Trial Court Branch 46.

Both are now locked up in police jails in Makilala and Leyte.

Lee commended the officers and men involved in the arrest of the two.

“This shows the dedication of our officers in protecting the rights and dignity of women and children who are vulnerable victims of molestation and harassment,” he said.
