Choose candidates who can fight corruption — solon
A House leader appealed to the voters, particularly the youth and those newly-registered, to choose the next leaders who can fight corruption in the government.
Deputy Speaker and Citizens Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) Rep. Bro. Eddie Villanueva made the call following reports on denial of grants to the country due to massive corruption.
“Use 2022 polls to elect leaders with real anti-corruption platform,” Villanueva said.
Basing its evaluation on the World Bank and Brookings Institution’s latest Worldwide Governance Indicator, the Millennium Challenge Corp. (MCC) disqualified the Philippines from grants amounting to billions.
This is due to a red mark in the “control of corruption” criteria, along with access to credit and business startup (in economic freedom), rule of law, freedom of information (in ruling justly), health expenditures, primary education, and immunization rates (in investing in people).
Villanueva said this is a deafening clarion call that should awaken every Filipino to the reality that corruption and corrupt leaders are the bane of our nation’s existence.
“Now more than ever, we need to view the 2022 elections as an opportunity to sack corrupt officials and elect trustworthy ones,” the CIBAC solon said in a statement.
He appealed to the voters to thoroughly study the background of candidates.
“It is now our most solemn priority to use our vote to elect candidates who are men and women of integrity and remove from office those who are in it only for personal gain.
We have the power to stop poverty and open the floodgates of prosperity by stopping corrupt people from being put in office,” he added.
