CAVITE COUNCILOR, 3 OTHERS NABBED OVER ILLEGAL GUNS

PHILIPPINE National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director Major General Leo M. Francisco yesterday announced the arrest of four persons including a municipal councilor of Naic, Cavite for possession of a cache of illegal weapons and explosives.

“This is part of our stepped-up effort to account for loose firearms and other weapons in the country thru our Oplan: Paglalansag Omega which is aimed at neutralizing private armed groups and seizing their illegal guns,” said Maj. Gen. Francisco.

The official said the suspects identified as Maria Theresa Puno, a 58-year-old councilor of Naic and a her husband-vlogger Joselito, 59; and companions Jerone Gabelo, 36; and Jonard Adan, 35, were arrested inside the Puno’s residence at No. 0250 Sitio Lontoc in Barangay Timalan Balsahan which was raided by CIDG National Capital Region Field Unit operatives around 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The CIDG Southern Metro Manila District Field Unit, with the assistance of the Naic Municipal Police Station, served two search warrants for violation of Republic 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 issued against the Puno couple by Judge Glenda Mendoza-Ramos of the Calamba City Regional Trial Court Branch 36 on Thursday, said CIDG-NCRFU chief Colonel Joel Manuel A. Ana.

Col. Ana said recovered during the raid were four hand grenades, one M-16 Elisco rifle with serial no. RP088794, one Glock 19 cal. 9mm semi-automatic pistol with serial no ,ADHN397, , one cal. .45 Colt MK4 Series 80 semi-automatic pistol with serial no. FC05097 and two 12-gauge shotguns without serial numbers.

Also seized by the CIDG raiding team were 90rounds of caliber .45 live ammunition, 33 rounds of 9mm ammunition, four fully-loaded 9mm magazines, three cal. .45 magazines containing a total of 30 bullets, two M-16 magazines with 38 live ammunition, a drug magazine for cal. 5.56 loaded with 100 bullets and 260 pieces of cal. 5.56 bullets.

The suspects are now being investigated at the CIDG-SDFU office pending the filing of non-bailable charges for illegal possession of firearms and explosives against them, said Col. Ana.
