THE remains of the late Philippine National Police chief General Camilo Pancratius P. Cascolan on Tuesday afternoon was brought to Camp Crame for a 2-day wake even as the PNP leadership called on the public, the media included to let the Cascolan family grieve and resolve all internal issues between them.

“Please let the Cascolan family resolve any issue within the family out of respect to the former PNP chief. What we can say is that the cause of his death is a lingering illness. So let his family grieve and resolve the issue,” said PNP spokesperson Colonel Jean S. Fajardo.

Siblings of the 24th PNP chief earlier questioned what they described as ‘extraordinary circumstances’ surrounding the latter’s death and even flagged the immediate cremation of the remains of the member of Philippine Military Academy ‘Sinagtala’ Class of 1986.

The wife and son of Cascolan were with him when he breathed his last. Col. Fajardo said that the former PNP chief’s family requested the assistance of a PNP medico-legal officer in signing his death certificate which is needed by a memorial chapel to process his wake.

Cascolan passed away last Friday after a lingering illness. He was 59.

Prior to his death, Cascolan served as an Undersecretary of the Department of Health, appointed to the position by President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ R. Marcos Jr. in February 2021.

The late official served as chief of the PNP from September 2 to November 10, and actually was the 4th PMA Class 1986 member to be appointed as Chief PNP by former President Rodrigo R. Duterte during his 6-year presidency.

However, this was also the shortest as he served for only two months and eight days.

Cascolan is known as the architect of the PNP Oplan: Double Barrel’ which became the PNP’s flagship program in the ‘war against drugs’ during the Duterte presidency.
