POLICE Regional Office 13 director Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft yesterday announced the arrest of 20 gun ban violators and the seizure of 19 loose firearms in Caraga region amid their strict enforcement of the prohibition on the unauthorized carrying of weapons since last August 28.

The official said that six of the suspects were arrested in Agusan del Sur; five each in Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Sur; three in Surigao del Norte and one in Butuan City.

He added that the 19 small firearms as well as five other deadly weapons were recovered from the suspects as a result of police response, Comelec-supervised checkpoints, service of search warrants and buy-bust operations.

Kraft said that last September 25 alone, his men arrested a 37-year-old man for illegal possession of a loaded caliber .357 Magnum revolver.

The man was intercepted by policemen manning a checkpoint in Barangay Doña Maxima in San Luis, Agusan del Sur.

“We are continuing our effort to strictly implement Comelec Resolution No. 10918 thru intensified law enforcement operations. This is part of our effort to prevent gun-related violence during the campaign period,” the PRO13 director said.

Philippine National Police chief, General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. has ordered the full implementation of the nationwide gun ban imposed by the Comelec as part of the government’s effort to ensure a safe and secure October 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
