Calamba celebrates “Buhayani Festival 2023,” showcases best of the bests

CALAMBA City in Laguna is celebrating its “Calambagong Buhayani Festival 2023” with colorful and big events showcasing the best of the bests after two years of restricted movements due to the pandemic, according to City Mayor Roseller Rizal.

In a press conference held at the Sangguniang Panglungsod Session Hall in Calamba City, Rizal and City Tourism officer Carla Boholano said this year’s event was made more vibrant and exciting.

“From the usual competition, nag-imbita tayo ng best of the bests from different fields para ipakilala sa kabataan ang kahalagahan ng kultura at kasaysayan,” Rizal said.

“Marami tayong mga bagong programa na mas higit pa naming ipapakita kasabay din sa pagdaraos ng kaarawan ng ating national hero, si Dr. Jose Rizal,” said the Calamba mayor.

Among the activities include the “Paglalakbay Exhibit,” a blood-letting activity dubbed “Dugong Calambeno” to be led by Mayora Susan Rizal, and the June 12 traditional celebration of the 125th Philippine Independence.

Other events on the list are the Kusinang Kalambenyo, Kwentong Bayani, Buhayani Film- Making Seminar, Power Structure in the Novels of Dr. Jose Rizal and the history of local government in the Philippines seminar, Linguistic seminar, painting workshop, Calambagong Buhayani job fair, Talinong Rizal, Calambagong Bayani Street Dance showdown, Blessing/Inauguration of Jr. Coliseum, Bangkarera, Kite- making workshop, Iglesia Watawat ng Lahi, Fashion Designers Night, Pag-aalay ng Bulaklak sa limang Dambana ni Gat Jose Rizal, Rizal’s Birth Anniversary Program, Festival Grand Parade, Land Float Competition Mayors Night, Isang Gabi ng Kulturang Calambeno, Kasalang Bayan , Marching Band and the Half Marathon competitions.

The mayor said the local police and POSO (Public Order and Safety Office) members will provide security in the events that started on June 6 and will last until June 25. By Jane Eleda and Gil Aman
