THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Borongan local government unit (LGU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) that aims to facilitate the development and maintenance of the Borongan Airport, which is located in Borongan City, Eastern Samar, on June 13, 2023, at the CAAP Central Office in Pasay City.

The signing was attended by CAAP Director General Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo and Borongan City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda.

The Borongan City Government, recognizing the increasing demand for air travel in the region, partnered with CAAP and air carriers as the said airport launched commercial flights in 2022.

To accommodate a growing number of passengers and foster economic growth in the area, the Borongan City Government proposed a comprehensive plan to undertake and finance various development and maintenance projects at the Borongan Airport, including the construction of a new Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) and other essential infrastructure.

In his speech, Tamayo said that the MOA is a significant milestone in the partnership between CAAP and the Borongan City Government.

He said that the agreement is a “testament to our dedication and joint efforts to improve and develop the airport and would hopefully serve as a blueprint for our continuous cooperation going forward.”

Mayor Agda, for his part, shared that the signing of the MOA gives “hope” to the people of Borongan as it will pave the way for future economic development not just in the city but for the entire Samar region.

Agda also manifested his full support for the projects of CAAP in years to come.

The signing of the MOA between CAAP and the Borongan City Government sets the stage for a transformative period for Borongan Airport. With a shared vision of progress and a commitment to excellence, this partnership between CAAP and Borongan City will lay the foundations for enhanced travel experiences and unlock new economic possibilities for the region.
