JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla yesterday said that there was no concrete plan to transfer the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) headquarters from Muntinlupa City to the Masungi Reserve in Tanay, Rizal.

Remulla issued the statement in response to claims made by the Masungi Georeserve Foundation Inc. (MGFI) that the move to relocate BuCor would result in irreparable harm to the Upper Marikina watershed, potentially causing flooding in low-lying regions.

Remulla dismissed the claims, saying that the government is committed to protecting the environment, and that some individuals are merely being alarmist.

Remulla, who confirmed that the government owns the 270-hectare property in Tanay, Rizal, cautioned claimants against false claims to the disputed property, which he called an environmental legacy that belongs to all Filipinos, not just one foundation.

BuCor stated that former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo granted the property to them under Presidential Proclamation No. 1158 on September 8, 2006.

On September 28, 2022, the land was transferred to BuCor via Transfer Certificate of Title NR. 069-20220110986.
