Azurin: Suspect already identified

THE reward money offered for the informant that would lead police to the suspected killer of a graduating student of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) in Cavite has been raised to P1.1 million, Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) Director Colonel Christopher F. Olazo said on Friday.

According to the official, Cavite Governor Juanito Victor “Jonvic” C. Remulla, Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., and the Dasmariñas City government each offered a P300,000 reward for the suspect’s capture.

Cavite Representative Elpidio “Pidi” F. Barzaga Jr. and Dasmariñas City Mayor Jennifer A. Barzaga added P200,000 to the reward money.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. said the suspect has been identified by the local police with the alias “Angelito.”

The top cop said that officers found some of the victim’s belongings inside the house of the suspect, which they searched amid the hot pursuit operation against the accused, who was said to have been previously arrested for robbery.

The Cavite PPO, on orders of Police Regional Office (PRO) 4-A director, Brigadier General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., has launched a thorough investigation into the case of the victim whose body was found Tuesday inside her room at a dormitory in Barangay Sta. Fe in Dasmariñas City.

Olazo expressed optimism that the huge bounty will help them get the “killer” of Queen Leanne Daguinsin, a 24-year-old DLSU-D computer science student.

He said that any information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect may be forwarded thru telephone numbers 0998-598-5587 and 0998-967-3350. Col. Olazo assured that the identity of the informant will be kept in utmost secrecy.

The killing stunned the entire DLSU-Dasmariñas community.

A caretaker of the dormitory found the victim already without lower garments with blood scattered all over her body after her classmates started looking for her.

Olazo said that the Dasmariñas City Police Station, headed by Lieutenant Col. Juan P. Oruga Jr., responded to the crime scene after receiving a call from Bgy. Sta. Fe chairman Emmanuel Noora.

A check of the CCTV recordings in the area showed that at around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, the suspect scaled the rooftop of the nearby dormitory and went to the 2nd floor of the adjacent dormitory where the victim’s room is located.

CCTV footage showed the suspect casually leaving the building. He was wearing a blue t-shirt, black short pants, a black cap, and a pair of white slippers. The suspect was seen carrying some belongings of the victim.

According to Olazo, an autopsy showed that the victim suffered multiple stab wounds on the neck and body. The Cavite Provincial Forensic Laboratory is also investigating if the victim had been sexually abused.

Nartatez has ordered Olazo and Oruga to use all their available resources and personnel to effect the arrest of the suspect.
