Bong Go leads relief efforts for ‘Carina’ victims in Sampaloc
IN the wake of Super Typhoon Carina’s devastation, which continued on the afternoon of Thursday, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has taken action to provide immediate support to the victims.
While visiting the affected families in Barangay 519, Zone 51, Sampaloc, Manila on Thursday, July 25, Go, in his speech, maintained that he would coordinate with local governments to ensure rapid and effective assistance for those impacted by the typhoon.
He likewise expressed gratitude to the Manila local government, led by Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto, and Barangay 519 officials, led by Barangay Captain Joan dela Cruz and former Barangay Captain Carlo dela Cruz for their prompt response and dedication to helping affected families.
Encouraging the 400 affected families present during his visit, Go emphasized that he is committed to aiding their recovery. The families received grocery packs, canned goods, snacks, vitamins, masks, and shirts from Go himself. There were also select recipients of basketballs, volleyballs, and shoes.
During his visit, Senator Go encountered Ricardo Mendoza, whose shoes were soaked from wading through floodwaters. Moved by Mendoza’s plight, the senator immediately took off his own shoes and gave them to him, ensuring he had usable footwear.
As the government intensifies its relief and recovery efforts, Senator Bong Go continues his commitment as well to help victims in his own personal way to the best of his abilities.
Go also continues to champion the establishment of the Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR) through his filed Senate Bill No. 188. This proposed bill aims to strengthen the nation’s disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, and response capabilities, ensuring swift recovery post-disasters.
Additionally, Go highlighted Senate Bill No. 2451, the Ligtas Pinoy Centers bill, in which he is one of the authors and co-sponsors. This proposed legislation seeks to create permanent, fully equipped evacuation centers nationwide, enhancing the country’s readiness for future emergencies.
Meanwhile, Go also offered assistance to those who might have been injured during the typhoon and individuals with other health concerns through the Malasakit Centers located in the city.
There are Malasakit Centers located at Tondo Medical Hospital, Philippine General Hospital (PGH) which he visited on the same day, Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital, Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Hospital, and San Lazaro Hospital.
