THE Phillippine Red Cross (PRC) and government agencies conducted a bloodletting program following the recent spike in dengue cases this rainy reason.

PRC together with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Department of Budget and Management (DBM) jointly held the “Dugo Mo, Buhay Ko” bloodletting program recently.

PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwen Pang joined DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman and PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan as they visited the bloodletting site at the PCG headquarters in Manila.

A total of 90 units of blood were collected from uniformed officers of the Coast Guard who volunteered to donate to the activity.

PRC Chairman and CEO Richard Gordon emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to raise the country’s blood supply to keep up with the growing demand for blood. “We will always make sure there is blood for anyone who needs it. That is our mission, and we welcome partnerships with the public and private sectors in fulfilling our blood targets,” he said.

“The country is always in need of more blood, especially now that dengue cases are surging nationwide. This would really be a big help to patients in dire need of transfusions. We’re grateful to have the Coast Guard and DBM as our allies in saving lives,” said Dr. Pang.

For his part , Adm. Gavan added: “We value the symbiotic relationship we have with the Red Cross. And in the future, if you need us, the Coast Guard is there.”
