BJMP gets another ISO certification
THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) was awarded anew the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) for the sixth consecutive year.
SOCOTEC Certification International general manager Xavier Daniel presented the recertification to the BJMP family under the supervision of Jail Director Ruel Rivera during a simple ceremony held Thursday at the BJMP national headquarters in Quezon City.
In his message, Rivera emphasized the importance of the certification, highlighting the Jail Bureau’s steadfast commitment to continuous improvement, effective governance, and delivery of quality service in jail management.
“Our journey since 2018, when we first started to outline the framework of this move, has not been a walk in the park. In fact, our journey has been very taxing, demanding, and required a lot of heart,” he said.
The BJMP chief also highlighted that the certification is more than just an achievement—it’s a testament to the Jail Bureau’s mission to serve the public with excellence, particularly the persons deprived of liberty (PDL) under its care.
“It is not the piece of paper that we are after. But we are after the meaning that comes with it, the value that it means to what we stand for as a Bureau, and to what we offer to the people who depend on us in the service,” he added.
With the recertification in hand, the BJMP now faces the challenge of maintaining this high standard.
“The next part of this journey is making sure that every one of us does their part well – operating in commitment, intentionality, and love for our Bureau,” the BJMP chief stressed.
The ISO 9001:2015 QMS recertification is a vital step in the Jail Bureau’s ongoing efforts to contribute to the Ambisyon 2040 initiative of the government and the fulfillment of its strategic roadmap dubbed Journey for Advancement, Innovation, and Long-term Development Plan or J.A.I.L. Plan 2040, reinforcing the goal of creating a safe, secure, and peaceful community.
