BUREAU of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco said that the agency will be pursuing deportation charges against a Chinese arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs at the airport.

The Chinese, identified as Qian Qiang, 52, was intercepted after attempting to travel on board a China Southern flight to Guangzhou, China lastI August 10 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.

Office of the Transportation Security (OTS) personnel intercepted Qian at the final security check upon noticing an ammunition-shaped object inside his shoes.

Inspectors then cut up the sole of his shoe then found 2 22LR ammunition rounds and a plastic container containing more or less 5 grams Methamphetamine Hydrochloride or shabu estimated to be worth P34,000.

This led the OTS personnel to coordinate with the NAIA Anti-Illegal Drugs Inter-Agency Task Group (AIDIATG) for Qian’s arrest.

BI records show that Qian was a holder of a valid 9 (g) visa and is working for a Philippine-based company.

Violations of local laws, according to Tansingco, are sufficient grounds to cancel a foreign national’s visa.
