Bela and JC back on screen for 5th team-up
Bela Padilla and JC Santos are back together on the big screen for their fifth movie this August.
JC has teased about this romantic drama, Wish You Were The One, with behind the scenes photos of him and Padilla on Instagram on June 22, and their fans have eagerly reacted with comments like, “Ready na akong masaktan ulit,” “’Pag etong talagang dalawa na ‘to nag-team up panigurado iiyak na naman ako,” “Handa na po ang tissue, just in case,” “Lahat ng movie nila pinanood natin. We shouldn’t skip this one” and more.
The blockbuster tandem began in the movie 100 Tula Para Kay Stella (2017) followed by The Day After Valentine’s (2018), On Vodka, Beers, and Regrets (2020) and 366 (2022).
Bela plays Astrud, a senior advisor at a curtain store from a poor family, so she learned to be resourceful, practical and goal-oriented. And now, her goal is to get back her ex-boyfriend, Jordan (played by Kean Cipriano).
JC is Ellis, a beta male landscaper.
He’s reserved and quiet. Despite being a bit uncool, he’s got himself a beautiful, popular, classy and extroverted girlfriend named Zoe (played by Franki Russel).
Astrud and Ellis’ paths meet just when they needed someone to act as their date to a wedding.
A friend of Ellis’ and Zoe’s is getting married, and naturally, they are invited.
But by this time, they are already separated because Zoe rejected Ellis’ marriage proposal. Their friends still want them to be together, and they’re hoping that the wedding will pave the way for a reconciliation.
But Ellis tells them that he is already engaged. This is where Astrud comes in as his fake fiancée.
Astrud is delighted to take part in this charade just to be able to get near Jordan, who is the chef at the wedding.
As she and Ellis pretend to be engaged, they really are destined to meet. They can’t deny their chemistry, and they are able to see clearly the reasons why their respective relationships failed.
If not both, at least one of them is bound to fall in love with the other. But Astrud and Ellis both know that love is a complicated thing. Will they even dare wish to be together?
Wish You Were The One is written by Enrico Santos and it is Director Derick Cabrido’s first romantic feature film.
He is best known for Clarita, U-Turn and Deadly Love.
Also starring Kaladkaren, Romnick Sarmienta, Andrea Babierra, Andrew Muhlach and more, Wish You Were The One opens in cinemas nationwide tomorrow, August 23, from Viva Films, Manila Envelope and Studio Viva, in cooperation with Clever Minds Inc.
