Barbers: Revive death penalty, include other crimes
“ANOTHER senseless death, victim of road rage. Another Chinese lording it over simple Filipinos. The country has become a breeding ground of criminals, terrorists, spies, sleeper cells. We have become the laughing stock of the world.”
These are the words of veteran lawmaker Robert Ace Barbers who has spent decades in government service investigating criminals and recommending sanctions against them.
“How did this Chinese bully get to own guns to kill helpless innocent Filipino civilians?”, referring to the suspect in killing a family driver in the Makati EDSA tunnel.
“Our system has gone berserk. Corruption from the lowest ranking employees who facilitate or “fixes” transactions for a fee, to the high-ranking officials in government who allow and empower the criminals to live among us, has enabled these criminals to run their wares with impunity. From abusing the use of the bus lanes to operating POGOS and brandishing fake birth certificates and Philippine passports, kidnapping and murdering people, we have allowed ourselves to be disrespected and treated like dirt. These scums of the earth are now looking down on us and we are worthless in their eyes. We did this to ourselves”, Barbers said.
“Corruption has eroded our moral fiber. They have this strong belief that emboldens them to treat us this way. They believe that every Filipino has his price, no matter his status and position. We can be bribed”, Barbers added.
It is time we revive the death penalty and include more crimes to be punishable by death. If we are to save the future generations, we have to show them the right way of governance. Leniency and indifference will erode confidence and faith in government. Already we have seen how these criminals run roughshod over our laws because they know that they can get away with it with their money and influence”, Barbers said.
