Ballot printing
IT is certainly reassuring to know that the printing of ballots for the 2025 national and local polls will be finished by April 14, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
This despite the delays caused by the temporary restraining orders (TROs) granted by the Supreme Court (SC) to certain disqualified bets.
In fact, Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia, an election lawyer, said the printing of the ballots will be finished at all costs by April 14.
Reports said some 73 million ballots will be printed for the forthcoming elections.
The close to 69 million registered voters, including new electors, troop to the polls on May 12 to elect 12 senators and more than 300 members of the House of Representatives.
Also at stake in the fully-computerized off-season political exercise, which is “democracy in action,” are thousands of local government positions.
The poll body has deployed more than 800 personnel to supervise the printing of the ballots to be used in the national and local elections.
In this year’s polls, there are 66 senatorial candidates and 156 party-list organizations as well as aspirants for the thousands of local posts.
“Naniniwala tayo na kayang-kayang tapusin ng Comelec ang pag-imprenta ng mga balota by April 14,” according to a new registered voter.
