THE 45-day election campaign period for local candidates in this year’s off-season national and local polls starts Friday, March 28.

That’s why it’s heartening to know that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is fine-tuning its system to monitor the implementation of its various programs.

Particularly during the election campaign period for local candiates.

Under our election laws, local bets are only allowed to campaign 45 days before election day, which is March 28.

Local candidates are those running for congressman, governor, vice governor, provincial board member, mayor, vice mayor and councilor.

Tbe Commission on Elections (Comelec), chaired by George Erwin Garcia, is out to prevent candidates from using government programs and projects for political purposes.

“Tama ang ginagawa ng DSWD na paghihigpit sa implementasyon ng mga programa ng gobyerno dahil panahon ng eleksyon,” a registered voter said.

“Hindi dapat pagala-gala ang mga kandidato sa mga lugar na kung saan ginaganap ang payout during the poll campaign period,” the voter added.

Government projects, such as TUPAD and AKAP, are a big help to many Filipinos.

Pero tama lang na sinisiguro ng mga otoridad na hindi nagagamit ang mga ito sa pangangampanya,

At ito nga ang ginagawa ng DSWD at ibang concerned government agencies.
