REIGNING UAAP champion Ateneo eyes a second straight World University Basketball Series (WUBS) championship this week in Shibuya City, Japan.

The Blue Eagles, who their Season 86 build-up have won two preseason titles, ruled the inaugural WUBS tournament last year by winning all three matches.

Prior to the competition, Ateneo will have an exhibition match against a Japanese university men’s basketball select team (JUBF selection) at 6 p.m. (Manila time) tomorrow.

The Blue Eagles begin their title-retention campaign on Friday as they face Australia’s The University of Sydney at 5:30 p.m. (Manila time).

A victory by Ateneo will arrange a semifinals meeting between either Perbanas Institute of Indonesia or Hakuoh University of Japan at 5:30 p.m. (Manila time) on Saturday.

The one-game final is set on Sunday.

Other schools vying for the WUBS crown are Korea University (South Korea), National Chengchi University (Chinese Taipei), Radford University (United States) and Tokai University (Japan).

Tokai and NCCU also competed last year.
