Anti-drug program

PEOPLE concede that many heinous crimes, including murder and rape, are still being committed by drug-crazed individuals not only in Metropolitan Manila but elsewhere.

This only shows that ex-President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s bloody war against the drug menace failed to slay the dreaded “drug monster,” which remains as the nation’s top enemy.

Admittedly, the “drug monster” continues to deliver “Sunday Punches” against our youngsters and makes unnecessary inroads into the known solidarity of the Filipino family.

That’s why we commend the Marcos administration, through the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), for launching a new anti-illegal drugs campaign.

Dubbed the “Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Iwasan (BIDA),” the nationwide program is in line with President Marcos’ commitment to continue the fight against the “Drug Monster.”

The Filipino people, including the ordinary citizens, are made to believe that the BIDA program must be within the framework of the law and with respect to human rights (HRs).

And, like other Filipinos, we cannot also overemphasize the importance of concerned governenment authorities focusing on rehabilitation and socio-economic development.

In launching BIDA, which aims to combat the problem through demand reduction, DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos said the total war against illegal drugs is like a tree.

“Kailangan tanggalin natin ang ugat ng puno – unemployment, lack of education, the family, lahat ito para mapababa natin ang demand (ng droga),” said Abalos.

And it is necessary, he said, that everybody ought to work in unison if we are to win the war against the drug menace.

Talaga!
