Anti-drug ops
SO this is how to address the illegal drug problem in impoverished Philippines without drawing the ire of the public and the international community.
Pursue the national government’s “bloodless war” against the dreaded “drug monster” that continues to victimize the Filipino people, particularly the youngsters.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s illegal drug approach is geared towards community rehabilitation, going after drug lords and getting rid of erring government officials.
In fact, records show that the number of fatalities in anti-illegal drug operations conducted by PDEA from July 2022 to September 2023 just totaled 19.
In the same period in 2020-2021, fatalities numbered 40, according to the PDEA, which is the law enforcement arm of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB).
Although the deaths dropped by 52%, the volume of confiscated illegal drugs and controlled precursors rose to 3,795 kilograms from only 2,349 kg in 2020-2021.
Last Friday, the PDEA destroyed P6-billion worth of illegal drugs and controlled precursors and essential chemicals (CPECs) at the Integrated Waste Management, Inc. in Cavite.
Local Government Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. said the destruction of the seized dangerous drugs and CPECs had saved thousands of young people from the road to perdition.
At the same time, Abalos commended the PDEA, Philippine National Police and other law enforcement units for working in unison to address the drug menace.
Of course, we cannot overemphasize the importance of establishing more drug rehabilitation centers across the country if we are to win the war against the “drug monster.”:
