Amer does it again

BASER Amer did it again.

Amer delivered the game-winning basket with two seconds left as Blackwater defeated Phoenix Super LPG, 91-89, in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Amer’s basket came after Yousef Taha of Blackwater completed a three-point play to tie the score at 89-all with 25 seconds left and Matthew Wright of Phoenix missed a three-pointer with seven seconds left.

It was a repeat of Amer’s game-winner against his former team Meralco last week.

Overall, the Bossing extend their winning streak tofour games for a 5-1 win-loss record behind only Barangay Ginebra and San Miguel Beer.

…Rookie Ato Ular finished with a double-double performance with a career-high 34 points and 10 rebounds in 28 minutes of action.

Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser had 16 points, followed by Amer with nine.

Jason Perkins led Phoenix with 22 points followed by Wright and Tyler Tio with 15 points apiece.

“I told Baser, ‘Baser you’re gonna backdoor to Rashawn. If it’s not there, take the shot,” said Blackwater coach Ariel Vanguardia in an interview posted at the official PBA website.

”We’re facing San Miguel on Sunday. For us that’s Game 2,” added Vanguardia.

“Sinabi ko sa kanila (Bossing) best-of-three ito. We have to get Game One, then on Sunday that’s the clincher. It’s always hard to close (out) a series, against the No. 1 team pa.”

Later, Magnolia celebrated the return of ace gunner Paul Lee to roll back winless Terrafirma, 104-83, for solo fifth place with 5-3 record.

Ian Sangalang finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, two steals and one block and Jio Jalalon added 17 points, seven assists and six rebounds for the Hotshots, who closed in on an outright quarterfinals berth.

Lee finished with 17 pointsin only 17 minutes of action.
