PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday pledged the government’s continued support for the success of the peace process.

President Marcos said the gains of the peace process depend on the work the boards will do.

“Know very well that we, in the national government, are very supportive and will continue to be supportive of all you are doing,” the President said during the oath-taking of new members of the Local Amnesty Boards of Eastern Visayas in Tacloban City,

President Marcos also stressed the significance of progress in the nation’s peace efforts. He said the unity of formerly conflicting parties and establishing an Amnesty Board were key to reintegrating former rebels into society.

The President likewise acknowledged the importance of unity despite political differences, citing the long-awaited efforts of those involved in the process of maintaining peace.

“It is a coming together of parties that we have been in conflict for quite a long time,” the President said.

“Now that we have the Amnesty Board here, there is a mechanism in place for us to bring back into the fold of the law and into society those who opposed the state for a while, for a good long while,” he said.

The President said it was important for the country’s good that the government and former rebels unite. PCO
