AKO Bicol is leading the party-list race in Albay, according to a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted from March 29 to April 5, 2025.

With just weeks before the May 12 elections, the Bicol-based group has pulled ahead of both national and regional rivals in the province.

Survey results show Ako Bicol outpacing national party-list 4Ps and fellow Bicol-based groups Ang Probinsyano and Bicol Saro. It remains the dominant regional political organization, with significantly higher support across Albay’s three congressional districts.

Founded in Legazpi City after Typhoon Reming, Ako Bicol began as SOS Bicol, a rescue and livelihood NGO. It became a political party in 2010 and has since consistently secured seats in Congress, earning national recognition in 2010 and 2016 after topping the party-list vote.

Over the years, Ako Bicol has remained a strong advocate for disaster resilience, education, and regional development. Its current first nominee is Rep. Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co, former House appropriations committee chair, while former Rep. Alfredo Garbin Jr. is the second nominee. Garbin has reaffirmed the party’s goal of pushing for constitutional reforms to attract more foreign investment.

Under the party-list system, 20% of House seats are reserved for sectoral groups representing marginalized sectors or regional interests. To gain a seat, groups must secure at least 2% of the national vote.

Ako Bicol’s commanding position in Albay reflects its deep grassroots support and sustained presence in local governance.

In a related development, the same SWS survey shows Lakas candidate and Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda leading the gubernatorial race, ahead of former Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal.

Meanwhile, Lakas candidates are also leading in all three of Albay’s congressional districts. In the 1st District, Rep. Jil Bongalon has overtaken Krisel Lagman. In the 2nd District, Kito Co holds a wide lead over Caloy Loria. In the 3rd District, Adrian Salceda remains ahead of Fernando Cabredo.
