Adamson UP blast rivals
FINALS-bound squads Adamson and University of the Philippines wrapped up their respective UAAP softball elimination round campaigns on a high note after blasting separate foes yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
The 12-peat seeking Lady Falcons completed a eight-game sweep of the elimination-round by shutting out La Salle, 9-0, in five innings.
In a good warm up heading into bigger battles ahead, the Fighting Maroons defeated University of Santo Tomas, 6-1, to finish second with a 6-2 record.
Adamson and UP, meeting in the league’s biggest stage for the third straight season, open their best-of-three Finals series on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Lady Batters and the Tiger Softbelles on the same day clash in a one-off game for the bronze medal. La Salle and UST were tied at 3-5.
The Lady Falcons were looking good in their build up to the Finals they peppered the Lady Batters with nine hits.
“At least ngayon, mas maganda ‘yung hitting namin against La Salle compared sa previous game. So, I think, ‘yun nga, nire-ready na rin nila ‘yung sarili nila (for the Finals) kasi sila mismo sinasabi nila hindi madali ang championship ngayong taon,” said Adamson coach Ana Santiago.
The Fighting Maroons know that they have a lot of things to work if they want to end the Lady Falcons’ reign and finally conquer the San Marcelino-based side.
“Preparation namin ‘to for the championship, at hindi pa ako satisfied. Marami pang dapat i-improve kung talagang gustong manalo. So, ‘pag dating sa training, i-focus pa namin ‘yung maliliit na concerns, dapat ma-adjust pa namin,” said UP coach Ron Pagkaliwagan.
