Adamson secures Final Four berth in UAAP baseball
ADAMSON clinched the remaining Final Four berth in the UAAP baseball tournament with a 16-15 victory over University of the Philippines yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
With the season on the line, rookie Milko Go Jr. and the Falcons defense rose to the occasion to eliminate the Fighting Maroons in the do-or-die playoff for the last spot.
After missing the bus last year, Adamson made it, arranging an interesting duel with defending champion National University on Tuesday.
The other Final Four duel pits No. 2 La Salle and third-ranked University of Santo Tomas.
The Bulldogs and the Green Batters hold twice-to-beat protection, needing only to win once to meet in the league’s biggest stage for a second straight season.
“Sabi ko nga sa intindihin nila ‘tong game nila sa UP kasi nga knockout ‘to, ‘pag natalo fifth place, ‘pag nanalo, fourth. Yun, mabuti na kahit mahirap, kahit na nung lumalaban ‘yung UP, at least, naitawid ‘yung pang-apat naming sa standings,” said long-time Falcons coach Lando Binarao.
“Hindi actually ako satisfied sa performance kahit nanalo kami, kasi kailangan maka-score ka, makalamang ka sa kalaban ng mga five runs. Kasi kung ang lamang mo tatlo o dalawa sa last ba, matatalo pa ‘yung team, which is nangyari nga sa mga games namin before. Mabuti naka-four runs kami at mabuti na-hold,” he added.
Adamson came through with a four-run explosion at the top of the ninth inning and a gutsy defensive stand in the bottom half to prevail.
