Acidre presses okay of wage hike measure
TINGOG Party-list Representative Jude Acidre reiterated call for the immediate passage of the legislated wage hike now pending in Congress.
This, according to Acidre, is the best tribute to be given to Filipino workers as they celebrate the Labor Day.
“Today, we honor the Filipino worker—the true backbone of our economy. They are the ones who build our roads, teach our children, care for the sick, keep our cities running, and keep our economy alive. Every step forward that our country takes is powered by their hard work and sacrifice,” Acidre said in his Labor Day message.
He emphasized that recognizing the role of workers must go beyond symbolic gestures, pointing instead to the urgent need for policies that promote decent pay, safe working environments, and better living conditions for families.
“That’s why, for us in TINGOG, supporting our workers is not just a political duty—it’s a moral obligation. We owe it to them to fight for a realistic living wage, safe and secure workplaces, and a better quality of life for their families,” he added.
Acidre underscored that economic progress should be measured not by macroeconomic figures, but by the actual well-being of the country’s workforce.
“Progress means nothing if our workers cannot feel it in their everyday lives,” he said. “No matter how good our economic statistics may look, they mean little if wages can’t keep up with the cost of living. The real test of progress is the take-home pay of every Filipino breadwinner—what they can bring home to put food on the table, send their children to school, and live with dignity.”
The proposed legislated wage hike, which was approved on second reading before Congress adjourned, remains a key priority for TINGOG. Acidre vowed to push for its final passage once session resumes.
“That’s why we are calling for the immediate approval of the legislated wage hike now pending in Congress,” he said. “We championed this measure and helped secure its approval on second reading before session adjourned. When Congress resumes, we will push for its final passage on third reading. This is not just a long-overdue reform—it is a matter of justice.”
