Abby Binay pushes for strict implementation of land use plan
SENATORIAL candidate and Makati Mayor Abby Binay said local government units (LGUs) should strictly adhere to their Comprehensive Land Use Plans (CLUPs) to ensure food security while managing urbanization.
Binay made the statement at the press conference of Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas in Sta. Rosa, Laguna Saturday. The candidates were asked how urban projects, particularly housing developments, can be implemented without compromising food security.
“Coming from the perspective of a mayor, ang kailangan po talaga natin is the strict implementation of the comprehensive land use plan,” Binay said.
Binay said the CLUP is good for ten years, and it is a product of an intensive study of the conditions and needs of a locality.
“Ang problema po ay maganda yung plans, yung implementation ay usually sumasablay,” Binay said.
Binay underscored the importance of properly implementing the CLUP to achieve balanced and sustainable development.
“Kasi kung magvi-veer away tayo doon sa CLUP, what’s the point? And the CLUP is supposed to be your bible to ensure food security and balanced urbanization,” she said.
Binay added that responsible urban planning is critical to sustaining growth without compromising the agricultural stability and overall food security.
As a mayor, Binay understands the challenges LGUs face in balancing development and food security. She has championed evidence-based policymaking and governance reforms to ensure urban planning remains sustainable and responsive to the needs of the communities.
