Philhealth

A welcome decision

THE Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) has lifted its 45-day hospital limit on the confinement of members and their dependents.

With the skyrocketing costs of medicines and medical services, PhilHealth’s decision is a welcome development in the Philippines,

We share the view of many, particularly the many poor across the country, that doing away with the limit is timely.

And we agree with PhilHealth authorities that the old policy on hospital confinement was really “obsolete.”

Certainly, nobody will argue with PhilHealth when it said that the imposition of the policy denied patients access to critical services

Under the old rule, PhilHealth will not reimburse the benefit claims of patients confined in hospitals beyond 45 days,

We commend the government, through PhilHealth, for its compassion to PhilHealth members and their dependents.

“Talaga namang nakakaawa ang mga kababayan nating nao-ospital ng mahigit 45 days,” a former barangay health worker said.

“Kung minsan nga noon ay napipilitang magpatulong sa barangay ang pamilya ng pasyente dahil kayang bayaran ang mga gastos sa ospital,” she lamented.

That’s why PhilHealth deserves the all-out support of the public as it tries to meet the health needs of PhilHealth members and their dependents.
