Improving agri sector
WITH President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. in Malacanang, the Philippines is seen on the way to becoming one of the world’s leading agricultural resource hubs.
President Marcos vowed to continue accelerating efforts to improve the agricultural sector, declaring that a more resilient and robust agriculture is key to economic prosperity.
The Chief Executive from Ilocos Norte made the statement in his keynote speech during last Thursday’s opening of Agrilink/Foodlink/Aqualink 2022 at the World Trade Center.
Organized by the Foundation for Resource Linkage and Development, the event is the nation’s largest and most influential trade exhibition on agriculture, food and aquaculture.
“The work to improve our agriculture sector…has only just begun. We need to continue to open more opportunities to improve their (farmers and fisherfolk) well-being,” he said.
Aside from feeding its people, the government is also seen to realize its dream of transforming the Philippines into “a leading agricultural resource hub in the region and the world.”
Marcos, the only son of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos, also took the occasion to explain why he had decided to temporarily head the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The soft-spoken and hard-working President Marcos said that it is in line with his plan of action to ensure the stability of food supply and prices in the country amid the pandemic.
Certainly, the Marcos administration deserves the all-out support of the Filipino people as it tries to alleviate the plight of the country’s farmers, fishermen and livestock growers.
In the view of various quarters, it’s a gigantic undertaking but not an impossible mission.
