BBM, Sara ‘landslide winners’
THE latest pre-election survey shows that the UniTeam tandem of former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (BBM) and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte “is headed for a landslide victory on May 9,” House Majority Leader and Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) President Martin G. Romualdez said Monday.
Romualdez made the statement shortly after Pulse Asia released its newest poll conducted last February 18 to 23.
Duterte is seeking the vice presidency under Lakas-CMD, which she chairs, while Marcos is the standard-bearer of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP).
“Our candidates have maintained their high marks, less than 2 months before the May elections. Despite such [strong] survey showing, they will keep on campaigning and spreading their message of hope, patriotism, and unity,” Romualdez said.
He said Pulse Asia’s February survey “validates the wide support BBM and Mayor Sara enjoy and the warm and vigorous welcome and reception they have been receiving throughout the country.”
The Pulse Asia poll showed that Marcos Jr. was preferred by 60% of respondents, while Mayor Sara was picked by 53%.
“Our candidates will try their best to improve or at least sustain their survey showing in the remaining days of the campaign,” Romualdez, who has been accompanying the UniTeam tandem around the country, said.
“Based on these latest numbers, BBM and Mayor Inday Sara would the first candidates for president and vice president in our recent history who could win by a majority vote, instead of a mere plurality,” Romualdez said.
Vice President Leni Robredo, BBM’s closest opponent, was chosen by 16% in the February survey, up by 1 point from January. Marcos Jr. also had 60% in January.
In the vice-presidential race, Duterte improved her voter preference by 3 points, from 50% in January to 53% in February, while her closest rival, Senate President Vicente Sotto lll, slipped by 5 points, from 29% to 24%.
Marcos and Duterte also continued to enjoy majority or near-majority support across the country.
In the February survey, Marcos had 66% in the National Capital Region (NCR), 58 percent in balance of Luzon, 53% in the Visayas, and 68% in Mindanao.
Duterte scored 48% in NCR, 41% in balance of Luzon, 51% in the Visayas, and a high 82% in Mindanao, the Dutertes’ bailiwick.
